I
am a Clinical Psychologist who graduated from the University of
Ottawa in 1992 and have been registered with the College of
Psychologists of Ontario since 1994. I have had the privilege of being an
Associate at the Centre for Treatment of Sexual Abuse and Childhood
Trauma since its inception in 1991 and have been Clinical Director
since 1996. As well, I have taught for twelve years at Saint Paul
University in the Marital/Couple Therapy program and have acted as the
Practicum Supervisor for students who worked with couples. Of great
importance to me was being able to teach a course on "Understanding
the Trauma of Sexual Abuse" at Saint Paul's to many up-and-coming
therapists so that they could take this essential knowledge into
their practice. I enjoy doing many workshops and trainings for
agencies and groups who are interested in trauma across Ontario and
supervising the work of many therapists in our own community of
Ottawa.
Over my years in practice, I have worked with many diverse forms of
trauma including sexual, physical, and emotional abuse in childhood,
rape and physical violence in adulthood, war trauma, motor vehicle
accidents, marital affairs, and death of a loved one, to name a few.
I work primarily with individuals and couples who are dealing with
trauma or any other psychological issue from a humanistic and
relational perspective with attachment theory as the infrastructure
for much of my work. I believe strongly that all individuals strive
for health and wholeness through connection with others and that, as
a therapist and human being, I can help facilitate this. I also do
psychological assessments for court, Insurance and Criminal Injuries
Compensation Board
claims, and other situations where a DSM-IV diagnosis may be needed.
